Daino Winery
We produce quality wines in total respect of the environment
Gianfranco Daino founded the winery as a true passion project in 2006. The vineyard neighbors with the beautiful natural reserve of Bosco di Santo Pietro, an ancient cork wood forest situated in the south of Caltagirone in Sicily.
The winery is born from a strong will to maintain the viticultural traditions. These traditions have been preserved for centuries by the skilled local winemakers who made the farming of indigenous grapes such as Nero d'Avola, Frappato and Alicante characteristic elements of the calatino territory.
Gianfranco Daino aims at respecting his terroir by producing extraordinary wines purely following theancient winemaking traditions and applying the rigorous protocols of organic agriculture. Thanks to i Vigneri – very skilled personnel specialized in Aegean bush tree cultivation - we take care of the vines at every stage of their cycle, only through manual labour in respect of the environment and in full harmony with the territory. No machinery are involved whatsoever at any stage of the cultivation or vinification.
Gianfranco firmly believes that in order to obtain healthy and perfect grapes and to produce wines without the use of chemicals with the lowest quantity of sulphites, he has to invest in the more laborious bush vine training system. This will also allow for the preservation of the terroir and for the highest expression of our Mediterranean red soil.
Among our guiding principles, the valorization of the local resources and culture are definitely at the first place. We are extremely aware of the incredible wealth of our territory.
For example, we partner with a small local artisan for the production of the highest quality taps made with the cork of Bosco di Santo Pietro, which allows us to have a very low TCA rate.
Gianfranco Daino Winery core values are sustainability, tradition and quality. We are committed to enclose in every single bottle our passion, hard-work and the interpretation of our authentic Sicilian terroir.
